Why I absolutely hate it when ANYONE uses the N-word

As many of you have probably have heard/seen Gwyneth Palthrow (or The Dream, supposedly) tweeted the following “Niggas in Paris, for real” while at the Watch The Throne concert.

Now as most of you may know, I am not one that freely uses the N-word nor uses the word at all. Before this whole incident went down, I don’t recall people screamin and hollerin over the fact that Jay-Z and Kanye West, two of the biggest names in the hip-hop game at the moment made a song which allowed for a person of any race/background to use the word (being as though its in the title and all). One recent example being before Kanye hit the stage in Paris, he told the crowd that it was okay to use the word…in order to sing along with the song…pretty much granting them permission to use the N-word.

So its okay when Jay-Z and Kanye West uses the word in it’s title and throughout the song, but when their friend uses it all of the sudden she’s a racist?? Not saying that Gwyneth Palthrow gets off the hook (I mean really sweetie, did you really think people we’re not gonna make a big deal out of this, and then on top of that you’re gonna throw in “for real” I give her major side eye for that one)

I never really understood why people, especially my people do the most in explaining the difference it makes for when a white person uses the N-word verses when a black person the N-word. Time and time again I have heard the argument that as a people we are changing history by further stripping the word from its negative connotation and embracing the word as a term of endearment. And white people simply can’t use the word because….they’re WHITE.

I fail to comprehend how we as a people and a nation find it okay to use a word, that was used to demean black people and totally change its history, like…like it has no real negative connotation to it anymore…which in my opinion still does!!

Sorry folks I just can’t get down with the get down. Point. Blank Period. Shortly after reading the whole Gwyneth Paltrow shindig on ClutchMagazine. I stumbled across this gem on MadameNoire: “Uncle Russ wants to school us on the N-word and why it’s cool for white people to use it.”

And on that note all I gotta say is that all of the excuses and people trying to explain as to why they use the word and why it’s okay for others to say it is getting pretty tiring. In the end it’s all pure ignorance to say the least.
